Trebor wins Swansea City Waterfront Brief
Trebor Developments is delighted to announce its selection by City and Council of Swansea as its development partner, to regenerate the key 20 acre Civic Centre site at Oystermouth Road and fronting to Swansea Bay.
Trebor has been appointed as the Council’s development manager to deliver an exciting mixed use development, “City Waterfront”, comprising a new major visitor attraction, a large public square, a city beach, a research hub, tourist facilities, apartments and restaurants where people can dine while overlooking Swansea Bay. The scheme will also deliver an improved promenade to the beach front, major new areas of public realm and a new public car park.
With a completed value approaching £150m, the site will make a significant contribution to Swansea’s regeneration and will interface with the redevelopment of the Council’s St David’s site, for which a complementary retail and leisure development is proposed. Both developments will better link the city centre with the sea.
Mark Wright, Partner at Trebor Developments said, “We are honoured to be chosen by the Council to help it deliver its vision for City Waterfront. Sites of this scale with such close proximity to both the beach and the city centre are few and far between and this site offers a hugely exciting opportunity.
“Our plans have been very well received and work is already underway on progressing our ideas and with encouraging interest so far from prospective occupiers. We see Swansea as having great potential, with this development as a clear priority project, and we are delighted to be entrusted to deliver it”.
Councillor Rob Stewart, Swansea Council Leader said, “The Civic Centre site has been recommended as the number one site of Welsh national priority status in a report produced for the Swansea Bay City Region board, so its regeneration is of strategic importance not just to Swansea, but to Wales as a whole.
“Trebor’s ideas build on what we have set out in our outline proposals for the site. Their plans to create a vibrant and successful new quarter are very exciting.
“There is much to do to realise the vision, but we have taken a major step forward with Trebor’s appointment.”
